Even now that I’m back home, my mind still wanders back to the streets of Zhengzhou.
From the very first day, I felt so welcomed. I never expected the volunteers — who in just two weeks became so close to us — to greet us with hugs as if we'd known each other for years.
It's something we don't really experience back in the UK, and it caught me completely off guard, in the best way.
I felt so beautiful, and it was like stepping back in time — having people stop to take photos with me is something I will never experience anywhere else in the world.
We shared food from home, played table tennis, cycled around the lake, explored Zhengzhou and spent hours talking.
Some of my favourite memories were not the organised activities themselves but the simple moments in between that brought everyone closer together.
If there is one thing I’m taking back to London with me, it’s a deeper appreciation for how much richer the world feels when you step outside what’s familiar.
